Today StageRace was open sourced, to allow existing customers (and the general public) to continue the useful life of StageRace for their purposes.
The development of StageRace's MS-DOS based predecessor started in 1996. StageRace itself is under development since 1998, and it had its first real-life test at the Netherlands Tour of 2000. It has been under active development until 2007, and has been in hibernation/maintenance since then. Today it was open sourced.
The StageRace source code was released under version 3 of the GNU General Public License. The intention of this source code release is to allow existing customers (and the general public) to continue the useful life of the software for their purposes, while the original author has stopped making updated versions of the software available. The intention of choosing the GNU General Public License is meant as an encouragement to share further changes with other customers and the general public.
Historical releases of StageRace will remain available on the website of Totaal Software, and so will the StageRace section of the website, for reference, and as a service to customers of StageRace.
Source code can be found on GitHub.
